I bet you'd take cold and damp over 2 weeks of below zero highs! I would! It is exhausting to deal with, everything is cold all the time. People here will leave their cars running while they grocery shop. Unlocked I might add. Where is Olivia for this discussion?? Your nose hairs freeze together when you breathe in! That's my parameter for a really cold day!

I think I had read that it was misquoted before, but there's too much useless information in my brain for it to have stuck. I like alot of the other misquotes, too. I guess we ought to just call them "twainish." Great word, "Twainish"! Gonna make that part of my permanent vocabulary.

That's one of those things that only people who have lived in the north can appreciate: When it hits zero, you can tell because your nose hairs freeze.
Also, you stand a good chance of having lower level outlets freeze up inside.

The gas went out on my heater last night. Oops. A few things got toasted, it'll take a couple of days to see how much damage was done.

Coupla inches of snow here too on Saturday. Bamboo down to the ground with the wet sticky stuff. Frozen hard to the MINI windshield this morning. I don't think it hurt the turnips. They are sooo good just freshly pulled. BJ

Looks like our winter wonderland is about to kick into high gear. 4 or more inches of snow, wind and Thursday is 9 for a high AND -5 for the low. Yech. Time for gloves.

A little fall of rain I could handle, but snow? Not yet. I need another week or two of clemency.
We (I) have been working on a wood shed since forever. Seriously. I bought the lumber back in August, and am just putting up the roof sheeting now. I have half of it up. The firewood is still in a pile in the back yard. Ther eis 2-4 cm of snow in the forecast for today/tonight, with a storm later this week.
I MUST get the shingles on before the snow does us in. I've seen guys shovelling snow off roofs to put on shingles, but thats on heated houses. Dunno if trapping moisture into the ply on an unheated shed will work out ok.
I guess I'll find out. Tonight the best I can hope for is to get the rest of the plywood up. Snow, snow go away, come back some other day!

That is so worse than having to plant some bulbs. Hats off to the president of Procrastinators Not So Anonymous.

We had snow in the SF Bay Area last night, down to 1000 ft. or less. The hills are all lightly frosted. I suspect that the Quingdom may have had snow last night, since it rained all night long and the low was 31.1. However, I was in my flannel jammies and two pairs of socks and snuggled under flannel sheets and two comforters , so I slept soundly and warmly through most of it.

On a winter wonderland topic, my first hellebore was in bloom last week. I was too miffed about the FG board to post my delightful find and then was miffed that I didn't have anyone to tell about my early blooms.
