Getting around here is easy, once you know how it works.
Below the big header at the top of the screen that says "Message Board" there is a row of tiny icons. I know they are hard on the eyes, but I'm not a webdesigner, so I left them as default.
Those icons are your basic navigation tools. Home takes you out ot the message board's mainpage, and the rest are self-explanatory.
To reply to posts, there is a reply button in the post header and footer.
To edit, use the "modify" button. After you edit the post, you won't see a button to make edit, instead it says "Modify post" I figured it out, but I thought it should have different words on the button.
To quote... there is a quote button.
The tiny blue text at the top of the box takes you around to where they say. just click around for a bit and see what works. I don't know either so we can figure it out together.
If you find something cool, or if you have a puzzle to solve reply here and lets see if we can unpuzzle it together.

Still trying to figure out how to post a photo. I know it can be done, but I think it may take html code and a hosting site like it does when I post on GardenWeb. I'll try to play with it some tomorrow if I can get access to my ftp site on the new computer.
Karma to you Dagwood for setting all this up for us!

To post a pic from the net: 1. Right click on the pic. 2. Choose "properties" (in the case of the pic above, it was t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:BJdeGp0oXZ6bOM:http://www.zwani.com/graphics/thank_you/images/1.gif ) 3. Highlight and copy 4. On the "reply" page, in the "Add Tags" section, click on the "Picture" picture (bottom row, 4th from the left) 5. Paste the properties between the two s 6. Post message Hope I didn't leave anything out. I kinda run on autopilot when doing this. Not sure exactly how to post from one's own stash.

To all: I just updated my profile b/c I noticed a little icon under peoples name to send them messages and some people had a little email symbol. So I did a little editing. Anyway, I'm never afraid to ask a dumb question-what is an avatar? Some sort of photo I assume? Why does one use one and how do I get one if I need to look slightly more knowledgable! it is always fun to work tech savvy words into discussions with my hs students. It gives me an artificial sense of belonging!!! Ha! I like to surprise them, they love that I text and facebook. But I don't facebook them if they are still in school. Not a good idea.

If Dagwood can find a way to activate the Post Attachment function mentioned in that link, that would be great. We'll just need to watch the overall free file limit and keep things small, or delete the pictures when we're done with them.

See the little love bird [since changed to the regal crown] under my name in the side panel? that's an avatar. There's a preprogrammed list that you can choose from or you can up/download one from the net, as long as it it fits within the specified parameters: "If you would like to use your own custom avatar, enter the full http:// URL to it in this box. You can specify your own custom width and height for your avatar. Avatars must be no more than 100x100 pixels"

And you can use anything as your avatar. The white dog on the FG site, that's Sammy, my dog. I have a strong belief that cameras can steal my soul. And I'm allergic to them. And one killed my grandmother. And they caused the Black Plague. So I shy away from them.

My grandparents didn't take pics and I was the last child, the only girl. Shy from the get-go, I despised having my pic taken and never got over it. Funny, I'm not really shy in person (anymore), but the pic thing stuck with me.

Now Jeana, I've got a picture on the wall above my 'puter. There's Rosebud, Gretchen, Wolvie, Mulchie Tessa and Jeana an' a whole passel of guys but they're not as pretty an' I'm not naming them. We are all lined up on the bridge in your back yard. And I'm tellin' ya, Jeana doesn't need to hide from the camera. And it wasn't the camera that caused the plague. It was polariods. Someone catches you in a bad moment and 60 seconds later they're passing around the picture and ever body is guffawing. BJ

If Dagwood can find a way to activate the Post Attachment function mentioned in that link, that would be great. We'll just need to watch the overall free file limit and keep things small, or delete the pictures when we're done with them. Here is the current attachment stats: File Attachments Home - View Attached Files -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to the Attachments control panel. Your forum has the ability to allow for file attachments to be posted along with messages. From these pages you can manage your file attachments. Attachment Statistics -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Total Files Attached: 0 Total Storage Space: 100.0 MB Total Space Used: 0.0 KB Total Space Remaining: 100.0 MB Maximum File Size Per Post: 1 MB Since we only have 100 MB, we need to use them wisely. Where possible I would suggest posting a link to a pic hosted on an image hosting site (webshots, etc.) instead of using up our storage. Once again, I remind you that once you post a pic here, proboards officially owns it. I will try to activate the attachments feature now.

Ha! Everybody standing on the bridge for a pic. Whose boneheaded idea was that? Oh wait....
If I'd ever been AROUND anyone with a polaroid, I'd have left immediately, even if it meant exiting a moving vehicle! They might as well pull out their pet tarantula.

I also know who forgot their password!!
I've never had this much power before. If my wife finds out, she's gonna smite me big time.
